Everything is humming right along mostly due to the hard work of our board and activity chairs.

COMING UP - Our first Meet and Greet of the year.  Wednesday, November 7th from 10 am to noon at the community room at Aspen Green. Here's a chance to meet some of our many new members and visit with old friends. Continuing members are asked to help provide refreshments. Brand new members are our guests this time. Please RSVP to Sarah Nanzig at [email protected] She'll send you important information about parking.

Finally, don't forget to vote!  Yes, there's the very important midterm elections on Tuesday, Nov 6th but also SNC's own vote on Monday, October 29th at the library on the proposal to change our name to Simsbury Newcomers & Friends. You should have already received an email with all the information you need to participate.  Don't hesitate to contact Shari if you have any comments or need any help. I'll even deliver if you need to vote ahead of time but can't download and print the ballot.

Welcome all walkers!  Our group meets every weekday at 9am. We start our walk from the lower parking lot behind CVS adjacent to the Iron Horse Trail. If you are walking for the first time, please text Michele so she can keep her eyes out for you.

Last month our group hiked up to Heublein Tower. It was a bit chilly and the leaves weren’t as vibrant this year, but we still enjoyed each other and the spectacular views.

Four intrepid Newcomers ate their way through the Chowdafest in Westport Ct last month.  The winning chowder was a New England style clam chowder from Pikes Market in Seattle Washington.

Dick and Shari were thrilled to discover a restaurant in New Haven and Fairfield that was serving a chicken tortilla soup with real New Mexican green chile. A taste of home! We'll be going down one of these days to sample their take on some southwestern favorites like green chile/posole stew, Navajo fry bread and Frito pie.

For November:
Toni Robinson and the Single Active Women are inviting everyone (single or not) to join them in attending the Theatre Guild of Simsbury's production of "Honeymoon Vegas The Musical" with a performance by our own Donna Sennott on Sunday, November 11 at 2:00 pm. Please contact Toni at [email protected] for group discounted tickets.

Eileen Higham is exploring the possibility of starting a Breakfast Club.  PopUps is sponsoring the first meeting on November 27th at 9 am.  We will meet at the Avon Deli Cafe in Riverdale Farms.  "We may discuss some fun current events."  Please RSVP to Eileen at [email protected] if you are interested in attending.

In October we visited Thorncrest Farm & Milk House Chocolates in Goshen, CT.

The Thorncrest Farm cows are so pampered that they sleep on anti-bacterial mattresses from Spain!
Kimberly Thorn makes phenomenal chocolates from the milk of their pampered cows. She can even tell which cow is best for each type of chocolate!

Wine & Women

Cheryl Sojkowski [email protected] 860-658-2199
Sarah Nanzig [email protected] 860-651-9085

Wine & Women is a fun and casual group that meets once a month, at a member’s home, usually on the third Thursday night of the month. Everyone brings a bottle of wine or other beverage of choice and an appetizer or dessert to share. It’s fun to meet new members and reconnect with friends. And, of course, you don’t have to drink wine to enjoy an evening out with this lively crowd!  We welcome members to join the group at any time during the year. If you are not currently on our email distribution list, please email Cheryl or Sarah with your name, telephone number, and email.

Our next gathering of the season will be held on Thursday, November 29th at 7:00 pm, at the home of Jackie Howes.  Please bring an appetizer or dessert, and a beverage to share with the group. You will receive a reminder email the week before the event with the location details and you can RSVP by replying to the email. Please RSVP to Sarah by November 27th.

SAVE THESE DATES: January 17, February 21, March 21, April 25, May 16, and June 7 (a Friday date for “Wine, Women and Guest”). Thanks to everyone who has volunteered to open their home to our group. We still need hostesses for January, February and June.
