President's Corner

We have two all club events this May!

First is the annual luncheon. If you haven’t already sent in your RSVP stop reading and go grab a pen and get it done! In addition to exploring the new venue and the great program planned, we'll be voting in our new board. Come visit old friends and make some new ones too.

Our second event is something new for us. Simsbury Newcomers & Neighbors is sponsoring a duck at this year’s Tootin’ Hills Duck Race. Look for more details below in the publicity report.  Mark your calendars and come root for SNN’s yellow mascot as it bobs its way to victory. It should be lots of fun!

Finally, I’m writing you during a trip home to Santa Fe. I’m eating lots of chili, visiting family and dear old friends, and constantly answering the question “How are you doing in Connecticut?” Again and again I answer that we’re having a wonderful adventure and that the ladies of Simsbury Newcomers have made the transition easy.  I’m so grateful for the people I have met and for the opportunity to serve on the board of this club as it continues its mission of creating community and fostering friendships.

Come Play with the Ducks!

Simsbury Newcomers & Neighbors will join in the fun at the Simsbury Duck Race on May 24th.

There will be games, music, vendors, a food truck… and of course, DUCKS!  Each rubber duck will be paraded across the Flower Bridge by a representative of its sponsor group. Then 3,500 ducks race down the Farmington River! Our aim is to interact with our community… and to win Best Decorated Sponsor Duck! Watch for an invite to help decorate our duck.

Newcomers are invited to display brochures at the volunteer table. Volunteer opportunities are available on race day. Next week we will forward a Sign Up Genius link for those interested in participating.

The Duck Race is presented by Tootin’ Hills Elementary. Proceeds benefit specialized programs to enrich social and educational growth such as Junior Achievement, Invention Convention, Family Art Nights and Enrichment presentations. The business duck race is scheduled for 5:15 PM, but volunteer opportunities are available starting at 10 AM.

Meet and Greet

On Thursday, March 28th we held a Meet and Greet event for new and existing club members as well as guests interested in finding out more about our special Club!  We had a fabulous turnout!  Thanks to Shari Cassutt and Dick Mullen for opening their home for this event.

Walking Group

Michele Abbott  [email protected]

It’s finally Spring!  Although our group has been walking throughout the winter, it is nice to start seeing the trees along the trail starting to bloom. We also feel so much lighter without our boots and coats. Once the weather is more consistent, I will send out a sign up for a special walk at Reservoir 6 for those who are interested.
